asked: How does it hurt PoC to have white people take part in their culture? Wouldn't it make people more accepting if we weren't telling them they're not allowed to even wear some clothes or eat a food? "Cultural appropriation" claims tell us we're not allowed to educate ourselves in other cultures.... Thus creating ignorance......
Uh, way to miss the point entirely.
As we (and others) have stated time and time again, there’s no problem with a white person eating a food from another culture or wearing a traditional garb when it’s in an appropriate situation.
What’s not okay is taking a traditional garb and during it into a costume. What’s not okay is bastardizing a language or aspects of a culture and altering it so it’s more consumable to white people. That is what hurts POC.
""Cultural appropriation" claims tell us we’re not allowed to educate ourselves in other cultures"
That’s literally not what this means at all.
If you’re too dense to understand this very basic concept then you are way beyond our help.
Don’t you love it how they always try to make it into a question of ownership?
Like, “Why can’t I HAVE you?”
